Jon Stewart's epic back-and-forth takedown on Fox's Nazi hypocrisy

HuffPost

Last week, Stewart had some strong words for Rep. Steve Cohen, who likened the Republican party's views on government-owned health care to Nazi lies. To his surprise, Stewart's comments were echoed all over Fox News, with everyone -- including Karl Rove -- saying Cohen should be ashamed of himself.

"If that guy is telling you you should feel shame, that's like Charlie Sheen showing up at your intervention to tell you to take it down a notch."

Although the majority of Fox News pundits spoke out against Nazi name-calling, it was Megyn Kelly who took it to a hypocritical level by saying that kind of rhetoric doesn't exist on Fox News.

As he does best, Stewart produced an impressive slew of clips showing Fox News pundits using Nazi comparisons, including Bill O'Reilly's mind-boggling claim that there's "no difference" between what Hitler did and what HuffPost does.

But he didn't stop there. Watch the rest of the clip to see Jon Stewart find more than just unfair Nazi comparisons on Fox News, but an instance of such name-calling within the same 24 hours of Megyn Kelly's comment, a Fox News pundit making the same Joseph Goebbels comparison as Steve Cohen, Fox News President Roger Ailes calling someone Hitler, and another Nazi remark on Megyn Kelly's own show.

"Well, Ms. Kelly," Stewart said. "Don't you look ridiculous now?"
HuffPostAfter Stewart called out Steve Cohen's use of a Goebbels reference to describe GOP behavior, Megyn Kelly of Fox News said there is no Nazi rhetoric used on Fox News. But Stewart proved with a slew of clips that Fox was being hypocritical.

In one of those clips, Bill O'Reilly made a mind-boggling comparison between HuffPost and Hitler. Seeing it on "The Daily Show" didn't sit well with the Fox News host, who said on his next show that the clip was edited in a way took it out of context. Stewart responded:

Why you used the Nazi reference doesn't really matter in this. The segment is for Megyn Kelly to take offense to, not you. It's not all about you, Bill!"

Watch the rest of the clip to hear Stewart's impeccable speeding analogy that should really put the entire Nazi name-calling debate to bed.

Fox News, Arizona, shootings and victimhood

Jon Stewart checks in, making sure that the victim of the Arizona shootings is recovering nicely. That would be Sarah Palin.

He also checks in with the new bipartisan demeanor at Fox, where they talk about how weird the memorial was. Yay for softer tones.

Stewart On Blocked DADT Repeal: 'Are We Run By Assholes?'

Huff Post

Last night on "The Daily Show," Jon Stewart lamented the repeal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell" failing to move forward in the senate, leading him to ask if the United States really is "run by a**holes."

Just like the 9/11 first responders' health care bill that was "snatched from the jaws of victory" by the Senate, another seemingly popular bill can't become a law. The problem lies with both Republicans and Democrats acting like a**holes, as Stewart so artfully put it, beginning with Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich) attaching the repeal of DADT to a military arms bill, forcing those who normally wouldn't vote to repeal to do so or risk looking soft on defense.

This terrible strategy begins a snowball effect of a**hole behavior, when GOP leader Mitch McConnell asks for 20 amendments to the bill, of which Senate majority leader Harry Reid says they could have one and also tied a "Dream Act" to the bill regarding illegal immigration, that conservatives would presumably not vote for.

After this tit for tat battle, Senator John McCain filibusters, and Stewart does all he can to keep from making innuendos when he suggests the Senate not try to "push this through." Still, Stewart had to state the obvious:

"Are we run by a**holes? Indeed."

Stewart and Colbert plan counter-marches on D.C. for 10/30

Huff Post

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will march together on Washington.

Or against each other in Washington.

Either way, expect plenty of Comedy Central fans to show up on October 30 when Stewart's "Rally To Restore Sanity" will meet Colbert's "March To Keep Fear Alive" in the nation's capital.

The duo have been hinting at a major announcement for several episodes in a mock response to Glenn Beck's own "Restoring Honor" rally that was held this year on the anniversary of a famous Martin Luther King speech at the same monument. There's no indication that the announced get-together is a joke, though. Both comedians are telling their audiences to book hotel rooms now (though for different reasons, as you'll see).

"It'll be like being in a chat room," Stewart explained. "But real."

Stewart punctuated his announcement on the earlier program with a homemade-looking banner reading, "Take It Down A Notch For America."

Colbert followed up with an announcement on his own show, and insisted that he would "notch it up a scotch."

Each man ventured into the other's studios for moments you'll just have to see for yourself ...

The mosque? Sure, I'll get the water too.

So much has been said, so I'll leave it to two brilliant voices. First, Keith Olbermann's Special Comment, which might be among his finest ever. And Jon Stewart and John Oliver, who are devastatingly awesome.

More Joe Barton: Rand sympathizes, Stewart destroys, GOP looks to him to lead

Rand Paul decided to stick his foot in his mouth. Again.

He offered support to Rep. Joe Barton of Texas who publicly apologized to BP yesterday for the "shakedown" where the White House tried to force them to accept financial responsibility for the disaster they created in the Gulf of Mexico.
HuffPost

Tea Party darling offered his sympathies for the Texas Republican, noting that he too understands what it's like to be at the bottom of a political pile-on. And in a re-airing of a critique he made weeks earlier, he accused the White House of taking too tough a tone with the oil giant.
Then comes a reminder from Press Secretary Robert Gibbs about the stakes of the November election.

Finally, Jon Stewart sums it up, calling Barton a "disdainful asshole".
