HuffPost TeaPartyHD, the television and internet network behind now-infamous video of Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) delivering her own rebuttal to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address, endeavored to straighten out the conservative congresswoman on Friday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Bachmann made headlines for her response to Obama and not just for the controversy it stirred within the Republican party. In one version of the video, the Tea Party darling doesn't appear to be looking into the camera. Instead of addressing her audience, she seems to be looking off to the side.
The reason, it appears, is that Bachmann delivered her speech to TeaPartyHD's camera, which had the teleprompter she used. But most of the world -- well, nation -- saw the footage shot by network cameras that were allowed to video the speech.
TELEPROMTER??!!!!!
SOCIALISM!!!!!!!!!!!!
Really, don't we all see how silly this is? Can't we see how unserious they are?
Pictures of piles of dead Jews, victims of the Holocaust, used as props to oppose healthcare. This is what it's come to for the right?
This is beyond indecent. GOP members of Congress were there. John Boehner stood there while these signs were displayed. So did Eric Cantor, the only Jewish Republican in the House. This is adisgrace, and that more Americans are not sickened by this shows how low we've sunk as a culture and a nation.
Just to remind as well, this rally was sponsored by Michelle Bachmann and the GOP. They didn't just attend, they SPONSORED it.
And just in case you needed reminding, Fox is fair and balanced and does nothing to contribute to this atmosphere.
Huff Post The FBI is investigating the hanging death of a U.S. Census worker near a Kentucky cemetery, and a law enforcement official told The Associated Press the word 'fed" was scrawled on the dead man's chest.
The body of Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old part-time Census field worker and occasional teacher, was found Sept. 12 in a remote patch of the Daniel Boone National Forest in rural southeast Kentucky.
Investigators are still trying to determine whether the death was a killing or a suicide, and if a killing, whether the motive was related to his government job or to anti-government sentiment.
Lucindia Scurry-Johnson, assistant director of the Census Bureau's southern office in Charlotte, N.C., said law enforcement officers have told the agency the matter is "an apparent homicide" but nothing else.
Now, this might have nothing to do with anything.
BUT, is it beyond the realm of possibility that the anti-government rhetoric spouted by the far right - Fox News, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage - had something to do with this?
Or how about everyone's favorite wingnut from Minnesota, Rep. Michelle Bachmann, who has been stirring anti-census fears for the last few months.
ThinkProgress Next year, the 2010 Census will be sent to every American household, as required by the U.S. Constitution. The far right has issued dire warnings of the Census; on a May 29th episode of Bill Bennett’s radio show, RNC Chairman Michael Steele intoned, “Certainly the collection of this information is going to be part of an ongoing political campaign by this administration.”
In an interview with the Washington Time’s right-wing radio show this morning, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) declared that she would break the law and refuse to answer the Census questions, beyond noting the number of people in her household:
BACHMANN: The mother lode of all data information will be from the Census. … Unfortunately, the Census data has become very intricate, very personal, a lot of the questions that are asked. I know for my family, the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home. We won’t be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn’t require any information beyond that.
Batshit-crazy Michele Bachmann pulled a history fail of epic proportions this week.
On Monday night Bachmann took to the House floor and paid tribute to the economic policies of Calvin Coolidge and the "Roaring 20s" (the era that ended with a massive monetary contraction and the Great Depression). One particular line really does stand out, though -- saying Franklin Roosevelt turned a recession into a depression through the "Hoot-Smalley" tariffs:
OUCH! Double fail! First, when Franklin Roosevelt took office, unemployment was already about 25%. He didn't start the depression, he inherited it from Hoover, a Republican.
Second, the tariff referred to here was actually the Smoot-Hawley bill, co-authored by Republicans Sen. Reed Smoot of Utah and Rep. Willis Hawley of Oregon, and signed into law by Republican President Herbert Hoover.
How Michele is able to get her underwear on without strangling herself is amazing. Bob Stack and Unsolved Mysteries should investigate.
But she takes it one step further. She's blaming swine flu on Democrats. "I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out then under another Democrat president Jimmy Carter," said Bachmann. "And I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it's an interesting coincidence."
Fail number three: The swine flu epidemic hit in 1976. Jimmy Carter didn't take office until January 1977. The president in 1976 was Republican Gerald Ford.
On CBS' The Early Show S.C. Gov Mark Sanford said Thursday the sheer size of the stimulus package will end up hindering any economic recovery. "I think the problem that was created with too much debt will never be solved by adding yet more debt," he said. "I think there are a number of wrinkles that have caused a number of us to say 'Wait a minute, let's take a long look at whether or not this really makes sense for our state.'"
Still, Sanford said he would accept the funds.
"Being against it doesn't preclude taking the money."
Sanford ignores several things. Number one, he doesn't state who it was that actually created this problem "with too much debt" (Bush). Two, he never offers a solution. It's easy to be against something. My question to the governor is 'what are you for'?
Additionally, Republican Governors such as Sanford, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Haley Barbour of Mississippi, Sarah Palin of Alaska and Rick Perry of Texas - all of whom are lining up to run against Obama in '12 - are contemplating refusing the money.
Nice job. Put your political interests ahead of your constituents. Isn't that impeachable?
However it's all a sham. U.S. Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.), the No. 3 House Democrat, put language in the bill that allows state legislatures to overrule their governors and take the bailout money. It was designed to prevent one shortsighted governor from tanking their entire state to maintain a dogma.
Clyburn's language allows these governors to have their cake and eat it too. Refuse the money, and when your legislature overrules you and takes it, you can accept the benefits of it.
This is all political hackery.
Howard Dean, former DNC chair, has dared these governors to decline the money and then explain to voters why their taxes went up because of a political stunt.
Then there's just plain ol' crazy. "The sky is falling" crazy. Batshit crazy. Michelle Bachmann crazy.
Michelle Bachmann, she of the Hardball comments insisting the government should investigate the political leanings of it's own members, is back.
Now, she's issuing the crazy. Obama is stealing money from Republican districts and passing it out to Democratic ones. He's giving ACORN, an organization working against inner-city poverty $5 billion (untrue).
Unfortunately, she runs into Keithiness.
However, there is uber-blogger Bob Cesca. I referenced his HuffPost column in here yesterday. A rightwingnut named Denise decided to start an e-mail conversation with Mr. Cesca. She was, unfortunately, fighting unarmed.
