Joy Behar and Ann Coulter square off over Sarah Palin

Joy Behar and Ann Coulter go back and forth over Sarah Palin's qualifications, or lack thereof, oh Behar's new HN show. Entertaining and annoying all at the same time.

The subject of Palin came up during a discussion about death panels, which Coulter acknowledges began from "one little Twitter from Sarah Palin," concluding that this makes Palin "a powerful woman."

Behar responded: "Ann, I like you, but the woman is not coherent. She can't construct a sentence."

Media Matters For America, the non-profit research and monitoring group, compiled a video of comments fromthe right, accusing Judge Sotomayor of being a racist, along with other "racist" accusations.

This is hysterical. Notice the ones crying "racism" are all white folks afraid of the change already happening. "Save us from progress"


Congratualtions to Sen. John Cornyn for repudiating the comments of Limbaugh and Gingrich

One of the top Republicans in the Senate, John Cornyn, is repudiating recent comments by Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich which claimed that Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor is a racist.

Cornyn, the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told NPR's "All Things Considered":

"I think it's terrible... This is not the kind of tone any of us want to set
when it comes to performing our constitutional responsibilities of advise and
consent."

Cornyn dismissed Limbaugh and Gingrich, adding: "Neither one
of these men are elected Republican officials. I just don't think it's
appropriate. I certainly don't endorse it. I think it's wrong."

When the chips are down and we're under duress, our character is tested. Either we're strong and sensible -- sometimes heroic -- or we're weak and crazy, abandoning our values.

The current Republican predicament is revealing for many reasons, but one thing we know for sure is this: in their time of crisis, they've become the Torture Party (among other things). I can't imagine that history will be kind to them for this.

As for Coulter in this video, if the CIA's torture techniques were nothing more than fraternity hazings or punishments for a small child, how could they possibly be effective? Either they're fun and games, or they're harsh enough so as to get detainees to sell-out their cohorts and, as Cheney and Coulter and Scarborough claim, reveal terrorist plots in the 11th hour. They can't be both.

Adding... Another twisted Coulter and Hannity video here. It's worth watching simply because it's so scattershot. In one short video, Coulter calls the techniques "wussy stuff" then later "torture" then compares the techniques to amusement park attractions.

So the techniques they're telling us are vital to national security -- either we do these things or we die -- are actually nothing more than a log flume ride? All that stands between us and death at the hands of a terrorist attack is a Fisher-Price toy? By downplaying the harshness of the CIA's torture techniques, they're negating their own efficacy argument.
