This is the America that the tea baggers "want back". The post WWII, pre-Vietnam days, where everything was fine. Just ask the Cleavers.



Which of these aspects of Beck's World is most offensive in a 2010 context?
A) A woman's place is in the home, and if they're in the home, why not be in the kitchen? Giving me a blowjob.
B) Women do alright with modern conveniences, but if you take away the blender, they're shit.
C) Women can't handle the rugged outdoors, where us cavemen peel pre-pressed burgers off of wax paper?
D) That "less government regulation" will allow a return to the time when asbestos gloves could be sold?

Here's what else was happening in Beck's hunky-dory post WWII period: thalidomide babies because of a lack of government oversight of medicine, civil rights protests for basic rights, beatings and dogs being turned on protesters and lots of other good nostalgic stuff.

It was a great period, if you were a white man.

The Washington Post quoted Linda Adams, a Beck supporter from Colorado, who said, "We want our country to get back to its original roots," adding that "her ancestors were on the Mayflower and fought in the American Revolution."

Really? I love the Founding Fathers and what they've wrought, but it's "original roots" were a bunch of slave owners in the south and witch-hunting religious zealots in the north.

O'Reilly defends Michelle Obama from Glenn Beck

With Glenn Beck complaining that Michelle Obama's outfit on the day she toured the oil spill was "an outrage", Bill O'Reilly stepped to her defense. O'Reilly chided Beck that he's worried about a dress and Laura Ingraham was claiming that the White House vegetable garden was a Communist plot.

However, the REALLY interesting thing was Beck's reaction. Laughing almost uncontrollably, he noted "Look at how many things in that garden are red." I can't help but think - as I have for a while - that Beck knows he's a button-pushing charlatan who just throws everything he can against the wall to see what sticks. He seems to be laughing when pushed about his own schtick.

Haven't you ever noticed that Beck almost NEVER has someone in studio with him, and never someone who isn't well-vetted to ensure that the narrative will never be questioned or broken?

Last Thursday, Glenn Beck devoted an entire show to red-baiting and trying to rehabilitate what he deemed the unfairly tarnished historical legacy of Joseph McCarthy. During the show, Beck and his guest, author M. Stanton Evans, agreed that McCarthy was "telling the truth." Beck went on to explain that progressives "mutate" communism's "evil" so that it "goes undercover." He claimed that "Marxism is alive and well" and "thriving here in the United States."

(Yet) during the promo for his then-upcoming Fox News show that ran on the network last January, Beck decried conservatives who say things like "Oh, those donkeys trying to turn us into communist Russia." He then yelled, "Stop!"

Based on how much farther he's tumbled down the red-baiting rabbit hole since then, it's possible that even the hypocritical Glenn Beck of January 2009 would want June 2010 Glenn Beck to "Stop!"

Beck suggests that perhaps we'd be in better shape in Afghanistan if we had hired a private military to do it. Ummm....

I won't go the easy route (though I understand the temptation) to ask why Beck hates the American troops. I would like to know why he thinks the fact that they wear an American flag on their arms makes them less successful than a private army?

However, I will agree with Beck on his final point, where he says that "all people go bad with power". Obviously he's suggesting governmental power, but I think we have to look in his back yard, at private power. We can start with him, but that's not the end of the list.

During last night's "Daily Show," John Oliver did a piece on retired Senators. And wouldn't you know it? Larry Craig was one of them. And wouldn't you know it? John Oliver completely mocked him - for obvious reasons.

Making it even better was that Craig had specifically requested that Oliver not ask him questions about his infamous bathroom stall sex scandal. Watching Oliver squirm and do everything he can from bringing it up is pure comedic gold.

This is what they WISHED America looked like. This is the opposite of diversity.

Why the Tea Partiers so willing to be duped? Beck himself admits that he doesn't care about the politics, he only cares about yanking peoples chains to they'll buy into him, and ultimately, buy his stuff. He's causing a Pavolvian reaction in the right wing: throw them red meat and they'll open their wallets.

While I disagree with so many of the basic themes of the Tea Party, I feel bad that they're allowing themselves to be lied to and mislead by this charlatan who is clearly only interested in their money. Read the quote: "I could give a flying crap about the political process. We're an entertainment company".

He has managed to monetize virtually everything that comes out of his mouth. He gets $13 million a year from print (books plus the ten-issue-a-year magazine Fusion). Radio brings in $10 million. Digital (including a newsletter, the ad-supported Glennbeck.com and merchandise) pulls in $4 million. Speaking and events are good for $3 million and television for $2 million. Over several days in mid-March Beck allowed a reporter to follow him through his multimedia incarnations, with one exception, his 5 p.m. daily show on Fox News, which attracts just under 3 million viewers.

The audience was typical of a large Beck fan gathering -- predominantly over 50 and white and heavy on retirees, the jobless and military veterans, or the kind of people who now often receive government benefits like Medicare or unemployment checks that would likely get hammered if policymakers actually listened to Beck's budget scheme.

Most of the attendees were eager to voice their resentments at the portrayal of Beck fans as either racist or as capable of violence -- but many of them clearly feel rage toward the Obama administration.

Perhaps none more so than 71-year-old Phillis Kluft, who raised four kids as a single mom in East Haven, Connecticut, and moved six years ago to The Villages, Fla., a retiree-laden epicenter of Beckmania where she now is a leader of the Tri-County Tea Party of Florida. Kluft said she believes that supporters of President Barack Obama want Washington are mainly seeking handouts.

"I saved money for my old age and didn't go on a vacation or buy a new car," she said, her voice rising in intensity. "It really galls me that these people sit on their ass and expect other people to take care of them!," the grandmother said, then adding to whoops of approval in Section 107, "I am so disgusted with this Obama bullshit!"

Let me please be clear, I am NOT suggesting that anyone who had paid into Social Security for a lifetime is on a government dole.

What I AM outright saying is that someone who relies on Social Security for their income should not be running around and criticizing social policies, since they've subscribed to one for their entire adult life and are now benefiting from it, living primarily on the income provided by it.

I will also say that Ms. Kluft should also consider that the average worker pays in enough to cover just less than 11 years of retirement. (The Heritage Foundation calculates that a 40-year-old male with an income just under $60,000, will contribute $284,360 in payroll taxes to the Social Security trust fund over his working life, and can expect to receive $2,208 per month in return under the current program). If she lives more than another 5 years, she'll be drinking my milkshake, so to speak. At that point can we condemn her for "sitting on her ass" and letting me take care of her?

Just something to think about.

Interesting insight. Similar to the post from earlier this week "The Republican party is an abusive alcoholic promising things will be different".

The real shame is that a party as great as the GOP was has sunk to such seditious levels. And not just on the fringe, because the center and the base cheer this on.
